  • Published connection capacity

The access capacity network operators publish for each substation, shown on the map and in the substation record.

  • Generation and pipeline

Operating solar, wind, hydro, gas and storage plants, and the large pipeline of projects in development, each linked to its owners and developers.

  • Transmission and distribution

High voltage lines and substations by voltage level, down to the distribution substations where most solar connects.

Market context

How the grid works in Spain

Red Eléctrica owns and operates Spain's transmission network, while a few large distribution companies, led by i-DE, e-distribución and UFD, run most of the distribution grid. Spain has one of Europe's largest solar and wind fleets and a pipeline of projects many times larger than the grid can connect.

Network operators must publish the access capacity available at their nodes, and capacity at some nodes is allocated through competitive tenders. That makes Spain one of the few markets where developers can screen substations by available capacity before they apply.
