  • Published headroom

Available capacity for generation and demand published for transmission and distribution substations, shown in each substation record.

  • Data centres

Data centres and other large loads next to the substations that serve them.

  • Generation and pipeline

Operating wind, solar, gas and storage plants, and projects in development, each linked to its owners and developers.

Market context

How the grid works in Ireland

EirGrid operates Ireland's transmission system, and ESB Networks owns it and runs the distribution network. Ireland and Northern Ireland share a single wholesale electricity market, and wind is the largest source of renewable power.

Data centres already use around a fifth of Irish electricity, and new large connections around Dublin face tight constraints. Published headroom for transmission and distribution substations helps developers of generation, storage and large loads see where capacity remains.
